Digital Champions is a cost effective scheme to help you kick start your social media

How it works.

On-going training, mentoring and guidance from a digital media expert to develop your in-house expertise and to help you create rich online content that delivers more engaged supporters.

Social Media has become an essential tool for charities to connect with supporters, share their stories and build relationships. Many charities, though, find social media challenging. They don’t have time to do it, they don’t know what content to post and they can’t afford a full time digital media manager.

Digital Champions is an innovative scheme that allows you to tap into the skills, expertise and guidance of an experienced digital media professional whilst also having the full time resource of your very own in house digital media champion. It provides invaluable training to a member of your team which is immediately put into practise and continually developed with practical challenges and weekly oversight.

  • Charities sign up to the Digital Champions scheme and identify a member of staff or intern to participate in the scheme
  • Participants attend 3 workshops over three months giving them new skills in content creation and an understanding of social media for the charity sector.
  • We guide the organisation in social media strategy, content and evaluation and oversee the work of the Digital Champion through regular phone calls, emails and meetings.
  • Your member of staff then creates a small amount of time each day to become your digital champion, posting on social media, creating short films and building your online communities.

Three workshops to give you the tools and skills you need.

Training Workshop 1:

  • Social media platforms for charities – what is the best way to use each channel?
  • Best practise examples of how large charities use social media
  • Understanding the audience and needs of each organisation
  • Developing a social media strategy
Training Workshop 2:

  • Creating great content
  • How to create visual posts – apps for images
  • Using video – tips for shooting and editing on phones
  • Storytelling – how to share stories of the people your charity helps.
Training Workshop 3:

  • Managing social media effectively
  • Scheduling posts
  • Managing criticism or negative posts
  • What policies do you need in place?
  • Analysing results – how to measure what works
  • Reporting results – reporting back to your organisation
It’s a great course. I had previously taken a 2 day intensive social media marketing course but by Digital Champions spreading out the sessions it allowed me to practice the skills and have time to think of questions for the next session which was really important in my learning. The workshops with other charities were a great way to brainstorm and learn from each other
